ZIMMER SAYS NO TO DRILLING OFF NJ BEACHES

Opposes efforts by President Bush & Congress to allow oil drilling off the NJ coast

“I oppose the efforts by President Bush and the Congress to suspend the ban on offshore oil drilling. In the U.S. Senate, as I did in Congress, I will support a ban on oil and gas leases off our coast because of the risks they pose to our environment and our economy.  I am strongly against any drilling or exploration off the New Jersey coast or in any area that poses a risk to our beaches.

“I have been a long time and consistent opponent of drilling off the New Jersey Coast.   In the Senate I will fight to ensure our beaches are protected and no oil drilling occurs off and around our beaches.  I support increased exploration in the Gulf of Mexico as well as boosting investments in nuclear power.”

As a member of Congress, Dick Zimmer introduced legislation (H.R. 440) that would protect New Jersey from oil and gas exploration and drilling.  The legislation was cosponsored by current N.J. Reps. Andrews, Saxton and Smith.
